Upcoming Gambling Regulations in the Dutch Market
Discover the Latest Gambling Regulations in the Netherlands
After much anticipation, the Dutch Government has officially released their updated gambling regulations. These new rules prohibit sports teams from appearing in advertisements, but they are still allowed to be sponsored. Additionally, there have been some changes made to bonus policies.
The upcoming regulations outline how online gambling will be conducted in the Netherlands once the law is passed later this year. Previous versions of the proposal only banned athletes from being featured in gambling ads, but after receiving feedback from citizens, non-sports figures popular among young people were also added to the list.
It was determined that sports teams have a significant influence on young individuals, leading to their inclusion in the ban. While these new regulations may make it more challenging for operators to advertise, protecting players is of utmost importance according to government officials. However, there is some good news for gambling institutions as license processing fees have been capped at €48,000.
What Exactly Do These New Regulations Include?
Under these new regulations, operators are not permitted to accept wagers on certain sporting events. This includes football matches in lower divisions and age categories as well as friendly games not authorized by FIFA or UEFA. However, major events such as WTA and ATP tennis tournaments and globally-recognized competitions are still open for betting.
As for bonuses, players who choose not to opt-in will still be eligible for rewards. The previous 60-day restriction for players who have received intervention for gambling addiction has also been lifted, with authorities now focusing on more direct and effective measures rather than long-term bans.
Lottery providers are no longer required to conduct addiction prevention programs, as it was deemed unnecessary. Timed bonuses are now prohibited, and operators must perform risk analysis on each game in their library.
What Can We Expect for the Future of Gambling in the Netherlands?
The world of gambling is ever-changing and unpredictable. With new laws being introduced, it’s hard to say what lies ahead for the industry. Whether legal or illegal, gambling will continue to exist. It only makes sense to establish rules and regulations that prioritize the safety of all involved.
Compared to other countries like the USA, the Netherlands is relatively lenient when it comes to gambling regulations. Previous attempts by authorities to regulate the industry have been largely unsuccessful thus far. Hopefully, these new regulations will bring positive changes for Dutch gamblers in the months to come.
